Delaware v. Pennsylvania is a case to address the dispute of unclaimed property in states. Delaware has taken possession of unclaimed MoneyGram checks and the state is arguing that a federal law that governs what happens to unclaimed federal money products shows that the unclaimed checks don’t count among the types of unclaimed funds that qualify.

If Delaware wins, it means the money would likely go to the state where the issuer of the money product is incorporated. Most businesses are incorporated in Delaware, so a decision for them would result in a huge windfall.

If Pennsylvania and the 30 other states affected win, their position is that the money and other funds that might fall under this decision would spread evenly throughout the states.
